about

A couple of months before this all ended, he was acting guarded again. I learned shortly after that his wife was pregnant. He told me to stay because I “meant the world” to him and he was still planning to leave his marriage. Only a few days later did he tell me he was going back to his wife. To this day, I can still empathize—but I still can’t help feeling hurt about it.

lyrics

YOU, ME, AND THE DUCHESS

Here, in this time, in this moment
Won’t you stay with me?
This way, won’t you stay with me?

Here, in this room, with this crowd
It feels like you and I before the world
You and I, you and I before the world

And I have always walked beside
The darkness of your shadow
Feeling alone, all alone
All alone, feeling alone

A shroud of light hits my face
As you take my hand and turn to the world
Speaking to them, clear as day,
And you say, “She is my queen, she is my queen,
She is my queen, she is my queen,
This is my queen!”

The duchess walked into the room
Wearing your crown and letters
Scarlet and bold, scarlet and bold
Scarlet and bold, scarlet and bold
Scarlet and bold

Your mind went blank
And then you saw these scenes of you
Before the world, throwing their stones
Throwing their stones, throwing their stones
At you, at you, at you, and you fell
Oh, you fell—
You took back your words

No rhyme, no reason
No rhyme, no reason
Now I walk alone, again
Beside your shadow
Never your queen
