about
This was a song I wrote at the end of 2014-- around the time I made my decision to leave my marriage. In 2015, I took the song to a recording studio in Chico, CA and it was recorded with piano and vocals only. Since working on my first album (to be released this Spring), I have created an electronic version of this song. Earlier this year though, I decided to re-visit this version because I loved it so much.
Hope you enjoy this original version as much as I had fun creating it! <3
With all my heart,
Jimil-Anne
lyrics
THE LOOKING GLASS
VERSE I:
There are nights where i find myself staring in the dark
Should I stay or should I stray?
Decisions in the night
For a lifetime of this, is it really worth the fight?
For a midnight of bliss, is it really worth my strife?
Oh, if I could only see…
CHORUS:
Beyond the other side of the looking glass
Would I see things of me that I only see in my dreams?
Could it be? Oh, could it be?
Would it be…? Would it be…?
VERSE II:
I turn around and close my eyes
Pretending you’re not there
And there he is on the other side
He’s got stardust in his eyes
He reaches out with open arms
And extends a tender touch
Oh, if I could only see…
CHORUS:
Beyond the other side of the looking glass
Would I see things of me that I only see in my dreams?
Could it be? Oh, could it be?
Would it be…? Would it be…?
BRIDGE:
Broke is my heart, it has split in two parts
(Broken--- Broken----)
Stay or to stray? My heart's broke in two parts.
VERSE III:
Here I stand at this door
I rescind my hand before
I turn around and walk away
Unclear of what’s in store
And so I walk to open arms
Unsure of come what may
Is it love for just today?
Or is this forever more?
Not so sure, not so sure,
But today I close this door
Not so sure, not so sure,
But today I close this door.
