about

I was inspired to write this song after listening to Dionne Warwick's "Walk on By". Chris said my voice reminded him of that song. When I had listened to it for the first time, the words seemed self-pitying to me. So I played with the words a bit and gave myself a little empowerment in the process.

lyrics

I'LL WALK ON BY

VERSE I:
You’ve got this swagger when you walk in a room
You’ve got that slick black hair and that die-for stare
But something about the way in which you carry yourself
Makes the nose on your face too big
Boy, check yourself

CHORUS:
No, thanks, I’ll walk on by
Your foolish pride is all there is
It’s all that you have got to show for yourself
The words from your mouth run dry
I’ll walk on by

VERSE II:
You drop your sweet-talk like it’s burning hot
Like I should worship your words and kiss your feet
Perhaps something about the endearing twinkle in my eyes
Makes you think that I am fragile and weak
Get over yourself

(CHORUS)

BRIDGE:
You bite the hand that feeds, asking for more to eat
Fool me once, fool me twice
No more… C’mon…

VERSE III:
The hindsight’s like an old, unread book
Brush off the dust as I begin to read
With every page there is something new
But as I read, I am turned away
No, thanks

(CHORUS)
