about
This song was written during a confusing time in my newfound relationship (of that time). It was written during the Summer of 2015. For a while, this new person I was with had been mysteriously guarded. I didn’t understand why he was acting that way, and when I confronted him some interesting revelations came to light-- yet, I was able to empathize. It felt like it was the first time he was being truly honest with me and himself. I really thought we made a serious breakthrough, and I thought there was freedom in that.
lyrics
COLORS
Verse 1:
When the tears have turned to dust
And the heart has turned to stone
You see love through skeptical
Black and white microscope
Then someone reaches out and holds your hand
Here’s a love that just began
And you both don’t understand
But here’s a love that just began
Chorus 1:
And you see colors for the first time
Blurred scenes come into view
And it’s like meeting yourself for the first time
You see in them missing pieces of you
Verse 2:
Every color has a darker shade
And every love has intricacies
He said to me, “I’ve got something to say,
But Dear, I fear, you may walk away”
“I’ve spent these years running from a painful past
Then I met you and this love began
I want to tie loose ends and just run away
Because with you, new life begins”
Chorus 2:
“I see colors for the first time
My darkness fades and I feel brand new
It’s like seeing myself for the first time
I fill the pieces being here with you”
Verse 3:
Every love has a turning point
To see it through or part their ways
This love of ours is beautiful
A vibrant, bold kaleidoscope
The end is near from your broken past
I’ll hold your hand to other side
Chorus 3:
And you’ll see colors for the first time
Your faded dreams will all come true
And we’ll see ourselves for the first time
Candid, raw, lovely, pure, and true
And we’ll see colors for the first time
Faded dreams will all come true
And we’ll see ourselves for the first time
Candid, raw, lovely, pure, and true
