about

I wrote this song back in 2012 when I was in the throes of my depression. For years, I had been stuck on this memory of a friend I was infatuated with during my adolescence. I confronted this friend of mine around that time-- not at all right in the head, but we had a good conversation about everything and resolved to us just being "stupid teens" and good friends. When sequencing this album, I wanted to do away with this song because I felt like it didn't fit with the story. But Chris and Alli really loved the song and convinced me to keep it in the sequence. As I think of it now, it fits the ambiguity I was feeling during the time of this new relationship.

lyrics

AMBIGUOUS

VERSE I:
I was never good enough
To make it to your heart,
But you led me to think
That someday I could win.
And I have spent the countless years
Convincing myself you were meant for me.
And you just kept it on,
Kept it on.

CHORUS:
Why are you so ambiguous?
Why can’t you just tell me face-to-face?
Confess yourself or break my heart.
Confess yourself or break my heart.

VERSE II:
Sometimes I find myself stuck in time
Into that endless night,
Wrapped inside your love,
And I have spent the countless years
Playing out that memory,
And it just plays on,
It plays on and on.

(CHORUS)

BRIDGE:
Oh, why the distance when I’m waiting for you?
Why the distance when I’m waiting for you?

Oh---

Why are you so ambiguous?
Time has passed and time’s run out for you,
Let the minutes pass and it may fade away.
Oh, let the minutes pass and it may fade away.

Oh, why?
